Popular wallpaper questions
Is wallpaper installation priced per roll or per square foot?
Both methods are common. Some installers charge per roll hung, while others price by square footage or by the whole project. Commercial wallcoverings are sometimes figured by yardage. None is better by default; what matters is that the quote clearly states the method and lists everything included, such as prep, primer, removal, and cleanup. Read more →
Can I put wallpaper directly on textured walls?
Usually not with good results. Orange peel and knockdown textures show through most wallpapers and reduce how much of the paper actually contacts the wall, which can weaken adhesion. A skim coat with joint compound, followed by sanding and a wallcovering primer, creates the smooth, flat surface most papers need. Some heavy textured vinyls hide light texture, but it depends on the product. Read more →
How do I know if my wallpaper is strippable?
Lift a corner with a putty knife and pull it slowly back at a low angle. If the whole sheet comes away cleanly with little paper left behind, it is strippable. If only a thin top layer peels off and a paper backing stays on the wall, it is peelable. If it tears into small pieces and won't release, it is a traditional paper that needs soaking. Read more →
Can you put wallpaper in a bathroom with a shower?
Yes, if the room has a working exhaust fan vented outside and you choose a moisture-tolerant material such as solid vinyl or a quality non-woven wallcovering. Keep the wallpaper out of the shower itself and stop it at the tile line. A mildew-resistant primer and adhesive, plus sealed edges near water, help it last. Read more →
How do I find a good wallpaper installer near me?
Start with installers who specialize in wallcoverings rather than general painting. Ask for photos of recent jobs similar to yours, read reviews that mention specific materials, and request a written estimate after an in-person or photo-based assessment. Compare at least two or three detailed quotes, and choose the installer who explains prep, materials, and pattern matching clearly instead of simply offering the lowest number. Read more →
What is the difference between Type I and Type II wallcovering?
Type I is a lighter-duty commercial vinyl suited to low-traffic spaces like private offices and hotel guest rooms. Type II is heavier and more resistant to scuffs and impacts, which makes it the usual choice for corridors, lobbies, restaurants, and retail floors. Both are washable, but Type II generally stands up better to frequent scrubbing and contact. Read more →
